Hey, I’m Joanie
I’m a licensed therapist for individuals, couples and groups, and I’m glad you’re here.
I focus on emotion.
Trained in emotion-focused therapy (EFT), I assist clients in uncovering the underlying issues behind their conflicts. I guide them in mapping their emotions, shifting their perspectives, and enhancing their communication skills.

Every couple has a unique conflict style often with one partner being vocal and insistent on resolution right away, while the other feels overwhelmed, without words and withdraws. Despite good intentions, conflicts are left unresolved and the partners discouraged. EFT views this cycle as the enemy not the partners. I aim to help couples recognize and understand their cycle, to promote more loving and constructive interactions.

Our family members are the closest people to us and yet often are the source of the most pain and conflict. Conflict within families is, confusing, chaotic and difficult to fully resolve. We might team up against one member or find ourselves divided into smaller groups. Like couples, families have a cycle or pattern of interacting that attempts to return everything to normal but often fails to resolve the underlying issues. In EFT family therapy, I work to help each family member be understood and to better understand others.

When we find ourselves doing or experiencing difficulty, we often judge ourselves and try to will ourselves to stop. I help shift from judgment to curiosity, identifying the emotions behind the behavior and exploring healthier alternatives to fulfill our needs.
